Pyrroloquinoline quinone 20mg Vegetarian Capsules

Supports generation of new mitochondria for healthy aging.

Feature summary

Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) is a recently discovered vitamin-like compound with antioxidant and B-vitamin-like activity that has a wide range of benefits for brain and body function. Clinical studies in humans have shown that PQQ enhances short-term memory and attention, improves energy metabolism, and reduces markers of inflammation, as well as improving general feelings of well-being.

PQQ is known to influence multiple cellular pathways, including the production of nerve growth factor (NGF). Like CoQ10, PQQ has diverse benefits for mitochondrial function. It has been shown to attenuate mitochondrial oxidative stress as well as stimulate mitochondrial biogenesis. Mitochondrial dysfunction is a key factor in the development of numerous health conditions, especially those typically related to aging.

PQQ not only supports cellular energy, but has neuroprotective properties. It protects cognitive health by promoting the recovery of damaged nerves, protecting neurons against oxidative damage and toxicity (including glutamate-induced toxicity), and helping combat the degenerative changes common to many neurodegenerative diseases.

BioPQQ is created using a patented natural fermentation process that results in a highly absorbable PQQ disodium salt. BioPQQ is the type of PQQ used in successful human clinical trials. BioPQQ is an innovative way to support energy levels, cardiovascular health, and cognitive function, as well as protect against age-related cognitive decline.

How it works

PQQ, discovered in 1979, will likely eventually be classified as an essential vitamin. Like CoQ10, PQQ is involved in the production of energy and protects against oxidative damage. Unlike many antioxidants, PQQ can be recycled thousands of times before its antioxidant effects are exhausted.

In addition to protecting mitochondria against oxidative stress, PQQ stimulates the generation of new mitochondria, supporting efficient energy production, especially in energy-hungry tissues like the brain and heart. PQQ also displays anti-inflammatory activity, and may further benefit neurological health by influencing gene expression and preventing the accumulation of alpha-synuclein and amyloid-beta protein, factors in the development of Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.

PQQ may stimulate nerve repair and protect against neurotoxins and over-stimulation of neurons, benefitting memory and overall cognitive health, especially in regards to neurodegenerative disease.

Concentrated in heart muscle and brain tissue, PQQ is ideally placed to defend against damage associated with heart attack or stroke. The sudden return of blood (and with it, oxygen and nutrients) can cause oxidative damage and tissue death, but PQQ’s unique antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects help protect tissues in the brain, heart, and elsewhere from such damage.
